Let's Talk:
Adults Talking to Adults about Child Sexual Abuse
by Joan Tabachnick
Stop It Now!
Let's Talk is a short, focused brochure that challenges adults to talk with other adults when they are concerned about sexualized behaviors or comments toward children. Based upon 10 years of HELPLINE data, the brochure outlines a straightforward process of how to raise and discuss concerns without making an accusation. It is designed to prevent child sexual abuse in situations of possible risk before a child is harmed. The brochure also outlines what someone can do in three very different circumstances:
- How to talk about healthy sexual development when the lines of communication need to be opened,
- How to add in protective factors if no child has been abused, but you are still concerned about someone's sexual behavior towards children, and
- How to report if someone finds out that a child has been sexually abused.
Let's Talk offers proven, practical advice for anyone or any agency concerned with preventing the sexual abuse of children.

This guidebook offers information on how to distinguish healthy and age-appropriate sexual development from sexually abusing behaviors. It offers guidance on how to talk to children about sexual abuse and what to do if a child discloses abuse. The public rarely recognizes the seriousness of these cases in which a child is abusing another child. According to studies, children under the age of 18 commit 30 - 50% of sexual abuse. The book reminds readers that there is help available for both the child who was harmed and the child who did the harm.
