What should I do?

revent Child Abuse Georgia's First Steps Program provides expectant parents and parents of newborns with emotional support, parenting education, and referrals to community services. Beginning in a hospital or clinic setting, trained service providers offer these services for a minimum of three months.

First Steps services include:

  • Initial face-to-face visits by trained service providers;
  • "Our Babies First Year Calendar," which features growth and developmental milestones for infants;
  • Follow up telephone contact for a minimum of three months;
  • Referral to a 24 hour parent warm-line for answers to parenting questions;
  • A community resource guide that can make parenting easier;
  • Linkage to home visitation when appropriate and available;
  • Parenting information focusing on a variety of topics, including postpartum care, brain development, Shaken Baby Syndrome, fatherhood and SIDS.
